Molly marched straight into her study when she finally reached her home. She dolefully sat down behind her desk, and gazed out over the ocean. It was the end of a day that had been far too challenging for her heart to deal with. She was comfortable and at ease with being on her own, and away from Ryan. The weather had become miserable, but it was nothing that could quantify the way she felt inside. She stared desolately at the portrait of Ryan on her desk, and she questioned how she would ever have the ability to endure seeing him with another woman time and again. Her heart ached for him, and regardless of how enormously she struggled to, she could not get the impression of detestation in his eyes, out of her mind. The one person that she felt sheltered by, the only person she relied on was moreover the very same person that instigated a frightening, and unrelenting assault on her heart. He was hurting too, but she was convinced that he had no intention of giving her an opportunity to right all her wrongs with him ever again. Her mind wandered once more to a point in time when they were merely children. “I love you Molly, forever.” He habitually assured her, “I will always be there for you, and it doesn’t matter what you do.”

Molly was entirely distracted while profoundly in thought when she heard a deliberate thud at her front door. She hurriedly made her way downstairs while glancing at the clock against the wall. “Eleven thirty?” Molly was not at all equipped for the vision that appeared to her at her front door. She was certain that an invisible dagger was sadistically and relentlessly piercing through her heart. While standing motionlessly and in a daze, Molly realized that she had involuntarily begun inhaling shorter breaths. “Ryan?” She shamefully gazed at him while he stood outside in the shadows of the darkness. She prayed that he his presence was not in any way, a crucifying repeat of all she had failed in, and disappointed him with. Molly no longer had the vigor to thrash out their differences with him, and for an instant, for just a moment, she acutely regretted ever knowing him. Ryan stood gawking at her in silence while once again perceptive to her red and distended eyes.

“I just want to know why you did it, Molly. I have to know why you really did it. I need the truth.” “Come in, Ryan.” She reluctantly made way for him to enter her home. “Just tell me, Molly, please.” He cautiously and hesitantly entered while desperately beseeching her. “It’s just that I can’t believe you couldn’t stand up to your father. I can’t believe you would’ve given up so easily.”

Molly moved closer to him while fidgeting nervously. “I didn’t want to Ryan, that I swear to you, I didn’t. I swear it on all that was good between us once, on all our promises to each other, and on my promise to you.
